The project, completed in 2023, includes advanced sorting and storage technologies to handle up to 10,000 packages per hour, quadrupling previous capacities.

Selection Process and Design

FedEx identified Adelaide Airport, Airport Junction as an ideal location for its new gateway, aligning with plans for a regional freight and logistics hub. The facility’s design integrates 435-meter conveyor belts and an automated sortation system, optimizing efficiency and throughput. These enhancements were crucial in meeting the burgeoning demand for air freight services, particularly from SMEs across metropolitan and regional South Australia.

The facility incorporates sustainable features such as a 4,500 square meter skylight for natural lighting, 100% LED lighting to reduce energy consumption, and rainwater harvesting systems.
